N.p. [London: Elstree Studios/ABPC], Heinemann, 1959. [Literary and cinematic critique] Elstree Studios' report on the Eric Ambler thriller, considering the novel as suitable for filming. 5pp., typed report on rectos only. Perforations down left edge from office binding. Very well preserved. Book is near fine in like jacket. A gun-running thriller set in South East Asia which was favourably reviewed by Ian Fleming for The Sunday Times. Dated 20th November 1959, Grove's report for Elstree provides a summary of the story, list of principal characters, synopsis and reader's comments. His verdict was generally positive, but with reservations concerning characterisation and stereotypes: 'A well-written, neatly-constructed thriller - clearly likely a movie subject. But there are faults...' Despite the novel winning the 1959 Gold Dagger Award, it was never developed into a film. A scarce film industry critique from one of Britain's best-known and well-loved film studios. Item #76182
