The Murder at the Vicarage.

London: Published for the Crime Club by Collins, 1930. [Crime fiction] FIRST EDITION, first impression. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.[4]; 254; [8]. Bound in publisher's orange cloth, titled and trimmed in black. Contents clean, neat and somewhat charming inscription to pastedown 'House / Dunmow Vicarage / Essex', bookseller ticket 'H.M. Gilbert, Winchester' to same. Edges of text block are clean, if a little toned, covers are bright and fresh with a small rub to upper, spine nicely aged. A most attractive copy. The first book-length mystery for Christie's perennially popular spinster character Miss Jane Marple, an amateur consulting detective residing in the idyllic if evidently crime-ridden English village of St Mary Mead, rather similar to the picturesque Roman market town of Great Dunmow, where this copy lived. It was also the first Christie book to be published in the newly-formed Collins 'Crime Club' (October 1930). Item #76083

Curran, John. The Hooded Gunman, p.257.
