[Literary and cinematic critique] Elstree Studios' PRE-PUBLICATION report of the Casablanca-based espionage novel Destination Unknown, rejecting the novel as unsuitable for filming. 2pp., typed report on rectos only. Blue ink rubber-stamped date-received [1 Nov 1954] to front. Perforations down left edge from office binding. Very well preserved. Book: some dustiness, ink ownership, light handling and wear. Very good. Agatha Christie's Destination Unknown was published by Collins Crime Club on 1st November 1954. The book was received by Elstree's Reading Department on 20th October, the report typed nine days later and delivered two days after. Its verdict on the novel was damning, summarising: 'Incredible, pointless and without one interesting character. Not recommended'. Destination Unknown remains one of only four Christie novels never to have been filmed. A scarce film industry critique on a major novel from one of Britain's best-known and well-loved film studios.
