"Outside of a dog, man's best friend is a book. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."
— Groucho Marx
N.p. [London: Elstree Studios/ABPC], Collins, 1963. [Literary and cinematic critique] Elstree Studios' report of the 'Hercule Poirot' murder-mystery The Clocks, considering the novel as suitable for filming. 5pp., typed report on rectos only. Blue ink rubber-stamped date-received [25 Nov 1963] to front. Perforations down left edge from office binding. Very well preserved. Book: some dustiness, light handling and wear. Very good. Agatha Christie's Poirot detective novel The Clocks was published by Collins Crime Club on 7th November 1963. The book was received by Elstree's Reading Department on 13th November, the report typed ten days later and delivered two days after. Its verdict on the novel was encouraging, stating: 'the opening is an exciting one... the original setting of the murder fascinating... there might be an exciting movie in this story.... It is worth thinking about - Miss Christie's name is still a considerable draw'. The Clocks remained unfilmed until 2011, when the story was adapted for an ITV television movie, in the long-running BAFTA-nominated series Agatha Christie's Poirot. A scarce film industry critique on a major novel from one of Britain's best-known and well-loved film studios. Item #75572
