[Literary and cinematic critique] Elstree Studios' report of the 'Miss Marple' murder-mystery novel The Mirror Crack'd From Side To Side, rejecting the novel as unsuitable for filming. 5pp., typed report on rectos only. Blue ink rubber-stamped date-received [21 Nov 1962] to front. Perforations down left edge from office binding. Very well preserved. Book: ink ownership, some spotting. Very good. Agatha Christie's Miss Marple detective novel The Mirror Crack'd From Side To Side was published by Collins Crime Club on 12th November 1962. The book was received by Elstree's Reading Department the following day, the report typed nine days later. Its verdict on the novel was lukewarm, stating: 'competent, but this is not a vintage sample of her art... far too much padding... the killings are handled perfunctorily... denouement is hurried... many loose ends lying around'. The Mirror Crack'd was eventually successfully filmed in 1980, as a lavish period-piece detective mystery with an all-star cast including Angela Lansbury, Elizabeth Taylor, Tony Curtis, Kim Novak, Rock Hudson, Charles Gray, Edward Fox and Pierce Brosnan. A scarce film industry critique from one of Britain's best-known and well-loved film studios. Item #75571
