With illustrations from the original plates by Cruikshank, Stone, Phiz, et al., printed with new type. Contemporary navy half calf, with gilt titles and decoration to spines, and marbled paper over boards. Top edges gilt, others untrimmed, and marbled endpapers. Very gently toned throughout, otherwise internally clean. Bindings carefully re-coloured, with light general wear. Very good. A popular edition first issued between 1890 and 1891: "... on the whole the more convenient and satisfactory edition of the novels." (a contemporary review quoted by Spencer). Item #75484
