[Literary and cinematic critique] Elstree Studios' report of the 'Hercule Poirot' murder-mystery novel Cat Among the Pigeons, rejecting the novel as unsuitable for filming. 4pp., typed report on rectos only, reader's delivery stamp to first page dated 16 November 1959. Perforations down left edge from office binding. Very well preserved. Book: with some dustiness, signs of handling, no inscriptions, small nicks, chipped at crown. Very good. Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot novel Cat Among the Pigeons was published by Collins Crime Club on 2 November 1959. A copy was submitted to Elstree's Reading Department on 6 November, and the stamp to the report's front page shows it was delivered ten days later. Its verdict on the novel was lukewarm, praising the pace and competence yet summarising: 'as out of fashion, suggest that it only be considered if a whodunit is planned in any case'. Cat Among the Pigeons remained unfilmed until 2008, when the story was adapted by Mark Gatiss for an ITV television movie, in the long-running BAFTA-nominated series Agatha Christie's Poirot. A scarce film industry critique on a major novel from one of Britain's best-known and well-loved film studios. Item #75314
