Women In Love.

London: Martin Secker, 1921. [Modern Literature] FIRST EDITION, first issue. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.508 [4]. In publisher's brown cloth with gilt titles to spine. No inscriptions, text block a little tanned, covers a little marked and handled. Women In Love follows the continuing loves and lives of the Brangwen sisters. It is the sequel to The Rainbow (1915), which was subject to an obscenity trial in London, resulting in a thousand copies being seized and burnt. Women in Love's sexual subject matter also caused controversy; the author was sued for libel by Lady Ottoline Morrell and others, who claimed their likenesses were unjustly drawn upon. Basis for the 1969 film directed by Ken Russell, for which Glenda Jackson won the Academy Award for Best Actress. The movie also courted controversy, being one of the first American mainstrem films to show male genitals. Item #75305
