In a secondary or private contemporary binding of mid green cloth decoratively blocked in black, with green endpapers. A little spotting to prelims, contents clean, edges of text block toned, subtle erasure to half title, a little soiling and wear to covers. Shows well. The fourth and final full-length Sherlock Holmes novel, being a retrospective or 'flashback' adventure set in Pennsylvania, 1888. 'The Valley of Fear' is also notable for the involvement of Holmes' arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty. Item #75210
