Publisher's red cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper. Recently re-cased, with front fly-leaf cancelled, and remains of a bookplate to rear pastedown. Joints split but reasonably firm. Heavy spotting to edges and the first 10 leaves, otherwise internally clean. Moderate general wear to cloth, with some toning and additional rubbing to spine. Good. The fourth and final full-length Sherlock Holmes novel, being a retrospective or 'flashback' adventure set in Pennsylvania, 1888. 'The Valley of Fear' is also notable for the involvement of Holmes' arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty. Item #75177
