Belgian writer Simenon was an Americanophile; during the 40s and 50s he lived in Arizona, California and Connecticut; two of his chidren were born in America and he was elected president of the Mystery Writers of America. In later years he returned to Europe but maintained ties with the U.S., visiting on several occasions. Signed American editions are therefore more accessible than their British counterparts.
