Heavily illustrated with engravings by the author. Publisher's red cloth, blocked in white and black to spine and boards. Black ink gift inscription to the fly-leaf: 'Eleanor E. Helme | from her father | Oct. 21. 1902.' Heavy spotting to endpapers, with minor toning throughout, and deep, heavy tobacco scent. Rear hinge starting, but remains firm. Light wear to cloth, with some toning, especially to spine. White titles to spine dulled, but fully intact. Very good. The original collection of Kipling's popular animal stories, including "How the Whale Got his Throat", "The Elephant's Child", and "The Butterfly That Stamped". This copy from the library of Eleanor Helme (1887-1967), early female Golfer, author and Journalist, who won the English Ladies Amateur Championship in 1923, served as President of the Surrey Ladies County Golf Association 1929-1946, and wrote numerous books on Golf and Nature for both adults and children.
