Publisher's blue cloth titled in gilt to spine. Contents clean, some spotting/toning to edges and endpapers, also to first and final gatherings, bindings rather fresh. An attractive, uniform run. Volumes one and four with bookplate of John Thomas Manners, 3rd Baron Manners, a British nobleman known for an 1881 wager, when Manners wagered that he could buy, train, and ride to victory a horse in the Grand National, and succeeded. With his winnings, Manners built a country residence, Avon Tyrrell, at Sopley, Hampshire designed by the renowned architect W.R. Lethaby. The 52-room property is now a Grade I listed and is considered to be one of the archetypal Arts & Crafts buildings. Item #74662
