Publisher's green cloth, with gilt titles to spine and the Lawrence phoenix motif in gilt to upper. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Black ink gift inscription to fly-leaf. Somewhat toned, with a occasional marks throughout. Considerable toning and staining to cloth, with some general wear. Good. The original title of this story was The Escaped Cock. The present title was decided upon by the author shortly before his death. D.H. Lawrence was awarded the 1920 James Tait Black Memorial Prize, founded in memory of a partner in the publishing house of A. & C. Black Ltd., and one of the oldest and most prestigious book awards in Britain. Item #72827
