Intimate Journals.

Intimate Journals.

London: Methuen and Co., 1949. [Journal] LIMITED EDITION, one of 750 copies. Octavo (23 x 14cm), pp.xxiv; 71 [1]. With six collotype plates including a frontispiece, and one line-drawn plate. Publisher's blue cloth, gilt titles to spine. Top edge gilt. Internally bright and clean, one or two marks throughout. Small typographic bookplate to front pastedown (owner was Alan Anderson, founder of the Tragara Press, Edinburgh). Cloth lightly marked/scuffed, spine toned. Mild shelfwear. Very good. Though called a journal by the editor of this book, the entries are more like essays without the added pressure of form. Here Baudelaire exercises his imagination, intellect and wit in a completely unrestrained, and thus intimate, manner. Item #71080
