All edges untrimmed. Contents clean, no inscriptions, last few leaves of ads are poorly opened with some tears to top margin, inside paper joints started, binding is sound with some scattered light marks to front cover. Shows well. A thrilling adventure novel, not well received by the literati (including Henry James), but suitably captivating to J.H. Millar, who deemed it in his review in Blackwood's Magazine to be as exciting as Treasure Island. After his co-author Balestier's sudden death, Kipling named the home he built for himself in Dummerston, Vermont, after the book in memory of his friend. Item #69886
