With a colour portrait frontispiece of the Bard to volume I, and occasional black and white plates and in-text wood engravings throughout by various artists. In contemporary burgundy half morocco by WHITMAN BENNETT of New York, with raised bands, gilt titles and further gilt decoration to spines, and matching cloth over boards. Top edges gilt, others trimmed, with marbled endpapers. Gently toned throughout, with heavier toning to edges. Wear to head and tail caps, and to some raised bands and joints, carefully re-coloured. An attractive set. Very good. A deluxe, illustrated version of Gollancz's classic Temple Shakespeare (1894), a pocket series which was produced with ease of use, readability, and production value most in mind.
