Elegantly hand-bound in half tan calf with gilt titles to spine, raised bands, matching cloth sides, publisher's original cloth spine preserved at rear. Contents clean with some very light expected reading marks, edges gently toned, one or two small spots, exterior as new. A near fine copy in an attractive recent leather binding. Set in 1915 on the treacherous rivers of war-torn Central Africa, the gin-sodden trader Charlie Allnut reluctantly agrees to help prim missionary Rose Sayer travel down river on a hazardous journey to destroy a German gun boat. Filmed by John Huston starring Katherine Hepburn, and featuring an Oscar-winning performance from Humphrey Bogart. Only 2500 copies were originally printed. Item #67848
