Publisher's red cloth with gilt titles to spine, and gilt devices to boards. All edges gilt; dark navy endpapers. Bound by Burn, Kirby Street, with label on rear pastedown of first volume. An attractive, clean copy of 'Alice', showing a bit of a reading lean, and a little weakness at the centre of the binding. Cloth shows moderate general wear. Black ink ownership to 'Looking-Glass' dated 1876; recently re-backed, with the original cloth spine laid over, and the original boards. Repairs to hinges; spine toned and worn, with moderate general wear to boards. Very good. An early printing of the 1865/66 children's classic, featuring Tenniel's original illustrations. Item #67448
