First issue jacket with quotes by Graham Greene and Angela Carter to the rear panel. Quite heavy toning to text block. Jacket very slightly sunned to spine, with some light wear to edges. Very good. Shortlisted for 1984 Booker Prize. A largely autobiographical novel which draws extensively on Ballard's experiences in World War II, 'Empire of the Sun' recounts the story of a young English boy, Jim Graham (Ballard's first and middle names are James Graham), who lives with his parents in Shanghai just before its capture by the Japanese. Basis for the Oscar-nominated Steven Spielberg movie (1987) starring starring Christian Bale, John Malkovich, and Miranda Richardson. Item #61962
