Also with the large folding table to rear, somewhat misfolded. Contemporary tan half calf, with raised bands, gilt titles to black label on spine, and marbled paper over boards. All edges speckled red; apricot-coated endpapers. Stamp and deaccession marks of Middlesex Hospital Library to title page. A stamp also to p.129. Lightly toned throughout, with occasional marks and spots. A few repairs to misfolded table. Quite heavy wear to binding, with vestiges of an institutional mark to head of spine and bumping to corners. Very good. First published in 1844, when bird was just 29 years old, and one of the most important urological publications of the nineteenth century. Bird was also influential in the field of electrotherapy, and designed an early flexible stethoscope. Item #59469
