Publisher's brown cloth with gilt titles to spine, and a gilt illustration stamped to upper, with blind decoration all over. All edges untrimmed; advertisements to brown endpapers. Faint black ink ownership to title page. Gently toned throughout. Expertly re-hinged. Moderate rubbing to cloth, with some gilt lost to spine. Very good. Surtees, who published his books anonymously, wrote about the sporting life and was among the foremost satirical authors of the nineteenth century, being considered coarse by many contemporaries.
