Item #52183 An Expensive Place to Die. Len DEIGHTON, born 1929.

An Expensive Place to Die.

London: Jonathan Cape, 1967. [Cold War spy thriller] UNCORRECTED PROOF COPY in oversized PROOF-ONLY dust-wrapper. Octavo (20 x 13cm), pp.254;[2], blank. Publisher's lime-green softcovers in jacket, with traces of the bold printed word 'ENGLISH' to extreme front edge of the flap and 'PROOF ONLY' in bold to rear with provisional publication date below. Contents are clean, jacket with some old tape to reverse side at joints and extremities, some offset as a result, sunned to spine, some rubbing, one chip to foot. A rare survival; all of Deighton's Cape-published proofs are uncommon in their proof jackets, the earlier titles especially so. Item #52183

Ex George Locke, with his initials 'FF' (Ferret Fantasy) to half-title/synopsis page. Book Collector No.287 (pp.32-62) 'The Sixties'. Milward-Oliver; Len Deighton Annotated Bibliography p.32.
