Original half calf over marbled sides; some wear and rubbing to covers, discreetly rebacked, neat repair to lower portion of plate I (not affecting image). A serviceable copy of this landmark work. The eminent surgeon John Hunter, best known for this treatise on sexually transmitted disease, was a pioneer of experimental pathology and was responsible for the opening of a museum of anatomy in London in which the cutaneous manifestations of syphilis figured prominently. The Royal College of Surgeons sponsors an annual lecture in Hunter's memory. Item #41017
