With frequent in-text illustrations by the author's father John, as well as a frontispiece and a number of full page plates to volume I. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt titles to spine, and gilt decoration to spine and upper boards. All edges gilt; blue-grey endpapers. Contents clean but for some light sporadic foxing; no ink inscriptions. Covers shows moderate use, lightly rubbed to extremities, gilt slightly dulled to both spines. Very good. The Jungle Book and its sequel comprise a selection of short stories—the best-known being the three tales centring on the adventures of the abandoned 'man cub', Mowgli. Other popular tales include 'Rikki-Tikki-Tavi', the story of a heroic mongoose, and 'Toomai of the Elephants', the tale of a young elephant-handler. Item #71565
