London: Heinemann, 1959. ['Rogue school' thriller] SIGNED UNCORRECTED PROOF COPY of the FIRST EDITION. Octavo (20 x 13cm), pp.247, with map endpapers bound in. Publisher's yellow softcovers printed in black. Autographed to title page in blue ink. Contents clean, spine gently rolled, some wear to joints covers dusty with some small nicks and tears; very good. A modern day pirate adventure, set in the South-Seas. This title was proof read by Ambler's novelist friend Ian Fleming, who was given an advance copy by the chairman of William Heinemann for the purposes of review. The lower panel of the published book jacket features a long review by Ian Fleming for Ambler's previous novel 'The Night-Comers'. This copy formerly owned by bibliophile George Locke, then publisher Otto Penzler (who secured the autograph) and subsequently by Jon Gilbert, bibliographer of Ian Fleming. A rare proof with an interesting provenance (no other copies currently listed). Item #67210
