London: Bentley 007 / Hodder and Stoughton, 2011. [Spy thriller] LIMITED EDITION by Bentley Motors, No.228 of 500 copies of their 'Red' edition (A 'white' binding was also issued, in a similar style but with a chrome box in the shape of a Bentley GT). Text printed in two colours, with 'progressive' Bentley illustration by Vitti Emms, throughout the lower margin. Publisher's red leather, stamped in blind, with red head and tail bands, red coloured edges and endpapers, red leather doublures and a red silk ribbon marker. No jacket was issued for this edition. The text block features a hollowed-out bullet housing, with the corresponding cartridge shell engraved with the limitation number to the primer and the title of the book etched down the side of the round. A neat gimmick, typical of the lavish James Bond special editions of late. A fine / as new copy in the original protective paper sleeve, fastened with limitation label. Bibliographer Jon Gilbert's copy, with his pencilled ownership. His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. A James Bond adventure set in Afghanistan and Dubai, written by acclaimed thriller writer Jeffrey Deaver, who is a lifelong admirer of the Bond novels and the 2004 winner of the Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award, presented by the Crime Writers' Association.
