"There are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those we spent with a favourite book."
— Marcel Proust

Chicago, IL: Novel Books, 1965. [James Bond] FIRST EDITION. Octavo paperback (18 x 11cm), pp.128. Publisher's colour illustrated soft covers priced at 60c; all edges yellow. Text block gently toned as expected. Covers fresh and unworn (usually quite rubbed). An unusually well-preserved copy. A two-part study of Ian Fleming, firstly by someone who claims to have been his friend and 'drinking partner' (this seems impossible to substantiate), followed by a larger selection of criticism, discussing the James Bond novels as literature. A rather strange piece of 'Bondiana'. This copy is from the collection of Ian Fleming bibliographer Otto Penzler, purchased by ourselves at Swann Auctions in 2010, with a pencil note to that effect signed by his bookseller friend and colleague Jon Gilbert. Item #66157
