London: Rupert Hart-Davis, 1957. [Spy Anthology] PRESENTATION COPY, given by the author Hugh Greene to A.H. Warren., M.B.E. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.[2] 256 [2]. Second printing. With occasional in-text illustrations. Publisher's blue cloth, illustrated dust-wrapper. With accompanying T.L.S. and related news clipping. Previous owner's detail discreetly inked to flyleaf, typed letter signed 'Hugh' providing "this rare and valuable work for your library at No.12" [Downing Street, Whitehall- the [then] official residence of the Government's Chief Whip]. He also notes that it is a second-hand copy [alluding to the previous ownership] and currently out-of-print. Book is fine, jacket with some chips, sunned to spine. T.L.S., 1pp., with single fold. At the time of this presentation Hugh Greene [Sir Hugh Carleton Greene KCMG OBE, 1910-1987] was Director-General of the BBC. His assistant Harman Grisewood CBE is also mentioned in the letter. The recipient is Sir Freddie Warren CBE, the Principal Private secretary to the Chief Whip. Item #64614
