Brown full calf, with gilt double-ruling to boards and gilt-ruled raised bands to spine. Edges speckled red. Interior toned and marked, a few leaves dog-eared. Various inscriptions in black ink to front paste-down, red staining and chipping to rear paste-down. Edges rubbed and toned. Some age and chipping to boards, especially lower. Extremities worn and frayed. Very good for its age. This book, translated from French in 1698, became known in England as 'Tooke's Pantheon,' as Andrew Tooke, the translator, was 'silent' about its true author. It is an extensive guide to the figures of Greek mythology. Item #63905
