Men Without Women.

New York, NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1927. [Modern Literature] LEATHER-BOUND FIRST EDITION, with a complete number '3' to p.3. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.[12] 232 [8]. Recent full black morocco with gilt titles and decoration to spine, and the author's signature blocked in gilt to the to upper board, with marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, original black cloth cover and publisher's yellow bull-patterened endpapers bound in. Contents clean, deckle (untrimmed) edges slightly toned, exterior as new. A fine copy in an attractive recent leather binding. Grissom notes five printings in 1927 which are very difficult to tell apart. It is generally accepted that the later printings have a broken '3' on p.3. This copy has a complete number 3. Many of the tales collected here appear in book form for the first time, following initial publication in various periodicals; Hemingway is remembered for his novels, but it was the short stories that first attracted notice. Includes the famous crime story 'The Killers', an Illinois gangster tale set in the prohibition era. Item #63049
