Funeral in Berlin. Secret File No.3.

Funeral in Berlin. Secret File No.3.

London: Jonathan Cape, 1964. [Cold-war spy thriller] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.320. Publisher's hardcover, printed black endpapers, dust-wrapper designed by Raymond Hawkey. A few small marks to edges. Essentially a fresh-looking copy but with some accidental soiling to top edge (thankfully this is mostly confined to the rear panel). Shows well. Basis for the classic film starring Michael Caine as 'Harry Palmer', produced by Harry Saltzman who made the Bond movies; mention of the film 'From Russia, With Love' appears on the dust-wrapper flap, as does a quote from Queen magazine, claiming Deighton's hero was "James Bond's most serious rival" Item #62116

Book Collector No.287 (pp.32-62) 'The Sixties'. Milward-Oliver; Len Deighton Annotated Bibliography p.29.
