Top edge gilt, and illustrated endpapers. A moderate tobacco scent, with toning to edges and the first and last few leaves. Toning to spine and light wear to cloth. Very good. The classic romantic novel, so much admired by the Victorians, in which the humanitarian vicar is brought low by a sequence of misfortunes and the petty evils of others. Risking ruin, he continues to exemplify Christian virtues and is duly rewarded for his faith. Beautifully illustrated by the genius of Rackham's pen. Item #61721
