With seven full page engraved plates, and numerous in-text wood engravings, by various artists. Contemporary brown half morocco, with gilt titles and decoration to spine, and deep mauve cloth over boards. All edges and endpapers marbled. A crisp, clean copy internally. Binding heavily worn to spine and corners, with some re-colouring. Good. Dickens first effort at historical fiction, set during London's Anti-Papist 'Gordon' Riots (directed against the Roman Catholic Relief Act, 1778), which first appeared serially in 1840. Item #61543
