INSCRIBED by the author in black ink to the title page: 'Augusta Carrington | from her very affec.[tionate] | CLW Cleveland.' Publisher's green cloth with gilt titles to boards, and gilt decoration only to spine. All edges gilt, and black coated endpapers. Some spotting to preliminaries, including map. Rear hinge just starting. Spine a little rubbed and toned; light wear to boards. A lovely clean copy with a personal inscription from the author. Near fine. Maid of Honour at Queen Victoria's Coronation, Bridesmaid at the Queen's wedding, and mother of Prime Minister Lord Rosebury, the Duchess of Cleveland was also distinguished as a genealogist and historian. This copy is inscribed to her niece, the daughter of the 2nd Baron Carrington. Item #61015
