Thrilling Cities.

London: Jonathan Cape, 1963. [Travel / Adventure] FIRST EDITION in the first state dust-jacket (laminated rear flap). Large octavo (23 x 16cm), pp.223; [1] blank, erratum slip tipped-in at p.223. Illustrated with photographic plates. Publisher's quarter white cloth over patterned grey boards, black topstain and endpapers, pictorial wrapper by Paul Davis priced at 30s. A lightly handled copy with the pink colouring to the spine remaining strong. Some very light creases/marks to panels, frayed to crown. A most pleasing example. Thrilling Cities is a travelogue account of various exotic locations, many of which feature in the author's James Bond thrillers, including Hong Kong, Tokyo, Macao, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Vienna, Geneva and Monte Carlo. These were serialised in The Sunday Times (1959-60) and are collected here for the first time in book form. Fleming would always seek out the "authentic pulse" of a city, by venturing down back alleys and away from the beaten track, it is this instinct that he believes lead him towards producing thriller novels.
