"There are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those we spent with a favourite book."
— Marcel Proust

London: George Newnes, 1902. [Sherlock Holmes] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.[viii]; 359; [1]. Publisher's red cloth blocked in gilt and black to upper board and in gilt to spine to a design by Alfred Garth Jones. Illustrated with sixteen plates by Paget. A moderately used copy with no inscriptions or bookplates. Internally clean, edges a little dusty/toned, some soiling to cloth, spine is rounded as it should be. Very good. Arguably Holmes' most charismatic case, and one which has consequently been adapted for stage and screen numerous times - and only about half of those times as a parody. Item #60529
