The Honorary Consul.
London: The Bodley Head, 1973. [Thriller] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (20 x 13cm), pp.335 [1]. Publisher's green cloth with gilt titles to spine, top edge tinted, in the dust-jacket designed by Michael Harvey, priced at £2.00 net. A touch of toning and marking to edges, and some light wear to cloth. Jacket a little rubbed to edges, with one large chip to lower left corner of the front cover. Near fine. 'The Honorary Consul' returns to that third world the critics call 'Greeneland' where the writer's characters live on the ragged edge. This South-American based drama, where a whisky-sodden figure of dubious authority is taken by revolutionaries, was one of the author's favourite works. Basis for the BAFTA-nominated movie starring Michael Caine, Richard Gere and the late Bob Hoskins. Item #60394
