With 16 mounted colour plates by Heath Robinson, including a frontispiece with captioned tissue guard, as well as numerous in-text wood engravings. Publisher's dark blue cloth pictorially blocked in lime green and titled in gilt to spine and upper. Light pencil gift inscription to fly-leaf. Very light occasional spotting, with one plate re-inserted showing a little rubbing and creasing to edges. Upper board bowed, with some light wear to cloth. Very good. A separate Illustrated English edition, the text taken from 'The Seven Seas'. This selection includes many travel poems, but also the darker verses 'The Song of the Dead' and 'The Deep Sea Cables', featuring dissolving wrecks in gloomy depths, with some suitably atmospheric illustrations by Heath Robinson. The book was originally issued in 1909 with 30 colour plates, bound in royal blue cloth blocked solely in gilt. Item #59147
