Contemporary red half morocco for HENRY SOTHERAN, most likely by MORRELL & Co., with raised bands, gilt titles and decoration to spines, and red cloth over boards. Top edges gilt, others untrimmed; marbled endpapers. Black ink gift inscription to first blank of each volume, dated 1907. Clean copies throughout, with a little toning to edges. Spines toned, with some light rubbing and marks to joints and boards. An attractive set in a fine contemporary binding. Very good. An epic series set in the Iroquois area near New York over the lifetime of Natty "Hawkeye" Bumppo, from the mid eighteenth century up to the early nineteenth, and one of the first truly American literary creations.
