London: Collins, 1956. [Naval thriller] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (21 x 15cm), pp.156. Publisher's grey cloth with gilt titles to spine and maps to endpapers. With the illustrated dust-jacket, priced at 12/6. Light toning and spotting to edges, with some light wear to extremities. Jacket rubbed and chipped to edges, with just a hint of toning to spine. Very good. The 'Mary Deare' was a 6000-ton freighter and apparently abandoned 'ghost-ship' which emerged one night from severe Biscay gales into the English Channel, and into the newspaper headlines. It falls to John Sands, a salvage operator, to investigate what had happened to her. Item #58991
