Contemporary green half calf by PROUDFOOT of London, with gilt titles to burgundy label and further gilt tooling to bands. Marbled paper over boards, with light brown endpapers. All edges speckled red. Black ink gift inscription to verso of fly-leaf, dated 1920. Spotting to blanks and title page, otherwise quite clean internally. Moderate wear and bumping to binding, with toning to spine and re-colouring to rubbed joints. Very good. A classic collection of poetry, ghost stories and legends that are mostly parodies or deliberately humorous.
