London: John Murray, 1847. [Upper Canada Rebellion] FIFTH EDITION. Octavo (20 x 13cm), pp. 441 . Contemporary brown half calf with raised bands, gilt titles to red label, and further gilt decoration to spine. Brown cloth over boards showing a watered silk pattern; grey endpapers. Plain bookplate to front pastedown. A clean copy internally, with some toning and dustiness to edges. Quite heavy general wear to binding, but remains a strong copy. Very good. A rather rambling account of life in Ontario, mixed with a justification of the author's part, as Lieutenant-Governor of the province, in the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837-38, including the dramatic 'Caroline Affair' which involved a flaming ship full of rebels being cast adrift to go over Niagara Falls.
