With four colour-illustrated pop-up scenes, a colour frontispiece and vignette title page, and several line-drawn illustrations, all by Wickham, and design and arrangement by Giraud. Publisher's colour illustrated paper-covered boards, with endpapers illustrated in blue. Main text heavily browned and spotted, but pop-ups crisp and clean, and in perfect working order. Light rubbing to cover, with a crease to spine. Near fine. Stephen Louis Giraud produced some of the first good quality pop-up books available after the First World War, following the demise of the high-end German pop-up industry. This is one of sixteen similar productions by Giraud published between 1929 and 1949, featuring the following eight stories: The Little Mermaid; The Wild Swans; The Nightingale; The Tinder-Box; The Snow Queen; Hans Clodhopper; The Swineherd; and The Garden of Paradise.
