"The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them."
— Mark Twain

London: Methuen & Co., no date [1904]. [Short Stories] SIXPENNY NOVEL. Octavo (23 x 16cm), pp.124. Publisher's blue and red illustrated paper covers. Toning throughout, with spotting to edges and preliminaries. Front cover heavily sunned, with just one small corner of the red intact. Heavily cocked, with rubbing to edges and losses to head and tail of spine. Tape repair to damage to the centre of the the spine and rear cover. A rare survival. Good. Fascinating short stories with a medical theme, containing two episodes of uncharacteristically sci-fi leanings; 'Lot No. 249' and 'The Los Amigos Fiasco'. These, plus the tale in which a man learns he has venereal disease just before getting married, makes this a most interesting and varied collection. First published in 1894. Item #57212
