Black ink ownership to fly-leaf. Slight offsetting to endpapers and very light spotting to edges. Jacket quite heavily toned with some light chipping and a few closed tears to edges. Near fine. A late but important Wells fantasy, 'The Croquet Player' is an allegorical satire about a man fleeing from his evil dreams, comparable with 'The Island of Dr. Moreau' or 'Mr. Blettsworthy on Rampole Island'.
