Contemporary tan full calf by James HAYDAY for White of London, with raised bands, gilt titles to contrasting labels, and further gilt decoration to spines. All edges speckled red; brown endpapers. Armorial bookplate of William Courtenay Morland to front pastedown of each volume. Spotting to endpapers and facing blanks; much more heavily to volume II. Signs of damp to endpapers, especially front endpapers of volume II, with corresponding marks to binding, and some bowing to upper board of volume II. Heavy browning and rubbing to spines, with some chips from labels of volume II. Very good. A classic work on the evolution of the English constitution during the early modern period, by the prominent Whig intellectual and Abolitionist, first published in 1827. Item #56844
