London: Methuen and Co., 1931. [Children's Illustrated] FIRST SHEPARD ILLUSTRATED EDITION. Octavo (20 x 13cm), pp. 312 . With frequent in-text illustrations, and endpaper maps, all illustrated by Shepard. Publisher's green cloth with gilt titles to spine, and gilt decoration to upper. Top edge green. Neat gift inscription to first blank. Light occasional spotting, with a few marks and signs of thumbing. Light rubbing to cloth, with a couple of bumps and some toning to spine. A faint ring mark to upper. Very good. Shepard's beautiful illustrations are the perfect companion for Grahame's elegant prose, and this combination does much to explain the enduring attraction of this story, first published in 1908.
