Publisher's illustrated glossy paper-covered boards with green titles to cream cloth spine. Colour-illustrated endpapers; all edges navy. Blue ink gift inscription to flyleaf dated 1923. Heavy pencil notes concerning the publishing history of the book to front pastedown. Corners heavily worn and bumped; lighter wear to boards and spine. A clean, attractive copy. Very good. The author's debut illustrated children's book, first published in 1879. Frederick Warne purchased the rights to print a number of Routledge's most popular children's books in 1900, including this one, and in 1914 the premises of Edmund Evans printers moved from the long-established Racquet Court on Fleet Street to Rose Place, Globe Road.
