London: Frederick Warne, 2018. [Children's Illustrated] LIMITED EDITION. Sextodecimo (15 x 11cm), pp.. Number 765 of 1500 copies produced for Hatchards of London. With a facsimile of one of Potter's original 'picture letters' as a frontispiece, and all the original colour illustrations reproduced throughout. Publisher's green soft leatherette over boards, with gilt titles to spine and upper. All edges gilt, priced at £9.99 to label on lower board. With a green ribbon-marker. A fine, as-new copy. Potter's second-published book for children (1903), following 'Peter Rabbit' (1902). It charts a classic course of Hubris, followed by sudden and inevitable Nemesis, with a little twist at the end to avoid the necessity of describing the flaying and evisceration of the protagonist. This special edition, featuring endpapers based on Potter's original designs, as well as a font based on her handwriting, was produced for Hatchards of London to celebrate their 220th anniversary.
